Youth Beauty Business Training Series
This program is a short-term workforce and entrepreneurship training series designed to introduce youth to the business side of the hair and beauty industry. Rather than focusing only on styling skills, the program teaches participants how to think like professionals and future business owners. Youth learn the foundational skills needed to operate in a salon, beauty service environment, or their own small business.
The purpose of the program is to help young people understand that the beauty industry is not just about doing hair; it is also about professionalism, customer care, sanitation, time management, pricing, branding, and business operations. This gives them a realistic picture of what it takes to succeed in the field while building confidence and practical readiness.
What Youth Will Learn
During the training, participants are introduced to the key areas that make a beauty business successful.
They will learn pricing and service structure, including how to determine what to charge for services, how to compare pricing, and how to create offers that are both fair to the client and profitable for the stylist or business owner.
They will also learn about hygiene and sanitation, which is one of the most important parts of the beauty field. This includes cleanliness, tool care, proper workstation setup, and professional practices that protect both the client and the service provider.
Another major part of the training is booking and scheduling. Youth learn how appointments work, how to organize time slots, how to avoid overbooking, how to communicate with clients, and how to create a smooth customer experience from start to finish.
The program also covers customer service, teaching youth how to greet clients, listen to customer needs, communicate professionally, handle questions, and maintain a positive reputation. These soft skills are important whether they work in a salon, operate a booth, or launch their own beauty brand.
In addition, youth are introduced to content marketing and promotion. They learn how beauty professionals use social media to attract clients, show their work, build trust, and grow visibility. This can include creating simple posts, before-and-after concepts, promotional ideas, and basic branding messages.
What Makes the Program Innovative
The innovation in this program is that youth do not just sit and listen; they build something real.
Each participant creates a mini service menu that looks like what an actual salon professional might use. This helps them think through services, pricing, timing, and presentation.
They also participate in mock bookings, where they practice real-life client interactions such as taking appointments, confirming services, answering questions, and preparing for a scheduled client. This gives them exposure to real business situations in a safe training environment.
In addition, youth complete a basic business plan. This introduces them to entrepreneurship in a simplified and age-appropriate way. They begin thinking about the name of a business, who they want to serve, what services they will offer, how much they want to charge, and how they would promote themselves. This helps them connect creativity with income-producing opportunities.
Program Outcome
The outcome of this program is twofold: job readiness and entrepreneurship exposure.
On the job readiness side, youth leave with a better understanding of workplace professionalism, punctuality, hygiene standards, communication, and customer care. These are transferable skills they can use in many industries, especially beauty, retail, and service-based work.
On the entrepreneurship side, they gain firsthand exposure to how a beauty business can be structured and promoted. They begin to see how talent can become income and how personal interests can develop into a career pathway.
The program ends with a “Pop-Up Shop Day” supervised by licensed professionals. This final event gives youth the chance to showcase what they learned in a live, structured setting. They may present their service menu, practice consultations, demonstrate professionalism, and interact in a business-like environment. Having licensed professionals involved adds credibility, mentorship, and safety while helping youth feel supported and inspired.
Why This Program Matters
This program matters because it combines career exposure, life skills, and entrepreneurship in a format that is engaging and relevant to youth. Many young people are already interested in hair and beauty, but they may not understand the business structure behind the industry. This training turns that interest into a learning opportunity that can lead to future employment, certification goals, side income, or business ownership.

Confidence Clinic: "Mirror Work & Mindset"
is a personal development program designed to help youth build self-confidence, improve self-image, and develop a healthier way of thinking about themselves and their future. The program focuses on the connection between what youth see in themselves, what they say to themselves, and how they show up in the world. Many young people struggle with insecurity, self-doubt, comparison, negative self-talk, and low self-esteem. This program creates a safe and supportive space where they can begin to challenge those thoughts and replace them with confidence, clarity, and self-worth.
A major part of the program is mirror work. Mirror work is a guided practice where participants look at themselves in a mirror and speak positive, honest, and healing words aloud. For some youth, this may feel uncomfortable at first because many are not used to looking at themselves with compassion or speaking kindly to themselves. The purpose of mirror work is to help participants become more aware of how they view themselves and to begin changing that internal conversation. Instead of focusing on flaws, mistakes, or insecurities, youth are encouraged to recognize their value, strength, beauty, resilience, and potential.
Through mirror work activities, participants may practice daily affirmations such as “I am strong,” “I am enough,” “I deserve success,” or “I am becoming the best version of myself.” They may also be guided to speak specific statements about their goals, identity, and growth. Over time, this practice can help reduce negative self-talk and increase self-acceptance. Mirror work also helps youth become more comfortable with their voice, facial expression, posture, and presence, all of which are important parts of confidence.
The second major part of the program is mindset development. This focuses on helping youth understand how thoughts influence emotions, behavior, choices, and results. Participants learn the difference between a negative mindset and a growth mindset. A negative mindset often leads to fear, self-doubt, giving up quickly, or believing that success is not possible. A growth mindset teaches youth that they can improve, learn from mistakes, develop new habits, and grow stronger through challenges.
The program includes discussions and activities that help youth identify limiting beliefs, such as “I’m not smart,” “Nobody listens to me,” or “I’ll never be successful.” Once those thoughts are identified, participants are taught how to reframe them into healthier beliefs, such as “I am learning,” “My voice matters,” and “I can improve with effort and support.” This process helps youth shift from defeat to possibility.
Confidence Clinic also supports emotional wellness by encouraging reflection, journaling, group discussion, and positive peer support. Youth are reminded that confidence is not about being perfect or pretending to have it all together. It is about knowing who you are, believing you have value, and learning how to move forward even when you feel uncertain.
The outcome of the program is stronger self-esteem, improved self-awareness, better communication, and a healthier mindset. Youth leave with practical tools they can continue using in everyday life. Confidence Clinic: Mirror Work and Mindset helps participants build inner strength so they can face school, relationships, leadership, and future goals with more courage and confidence.
Grades & Fades Achievement Pathway
Youth development program that connects academic success, personal discipline, grooming culture, and entrepreneurship into one structured experience. The program teaches youth that looking good is only one part of success. True achievement also includes showing up, improving grades, building confidence, practicing professionalism, and preparing for future opportunities.
The word “grades” represents academic accountability, attendance, goal setting, focus, and personal responsibility. The word “fades” represents grooming, self-expression, confidence, barbering and beauty culture, and professional image. Together, these two ideas help youth understand that education and self-presentation can work hand in hand to shape a stronger future.
This pathway is designed for youth who may already be interested in barbering, beauty, style, and self-care, but it uses those interests as a gateway to teach larger life and career skills. Participants learn that success in the grooming and beauty industry requires more than talent. It also requires discipline, communication, customer service, hygiene, time management, and business knowledge.
The program typically begins with an emphasis on academic accountability. Youth are encouraged to focus on attendance, classroom effort, assignment completion, and progress toward personal goals. Mentors help participants connect their school habits to long-term opportunities, including employment, vocational training, entrepreneurship, and leadership.
The next part of the pathway focuses on confidence, grooming, and self-presentation. Youth learn the value of hygiene, professionalism, and making a strong first impression. They begin to understand that how they carry themselves can affect how they are seen in school, in the workplace, and in business settings.
As the program continues, participants are introduced to careers connected to barbering, cosmetology, natural hair care, braiding, beauty services, and related industries. They explore how these fields can lead to certifications, jobs, side income, and even business ownership.
A major feature of the pathway is the entrepreneurship component. Youth learn basic business skills such as pricing services, creating a service menu, understanding customer care, managing appointments, and promoting services through social media or word of mouth. They may also complete simple business planning activities to help them think like future professionals and business owners.
The program also strengthens job readiness and leadership skills. Youth practice punctuality, communication, teamwork, responsibility, and problem-solving. These are transferable skills that can support them in almost any career path.
The innovation of Grades and Fades is that it blends education, culture, image, leadership, and entrepreneurship into one engaging model. It uses a topic many youth naturally connect with to teach deeper lessons about discipline and achievement.
The program often concludes with a showcase, pop-up event, or recognition day where youth present what they have learned. Overall, the pathway helps participants build confidence, improve school engagement, explore career options, and develop a stronger vision for their future.
